What’s the difference between an Engagement Ring and a Wedding Ring?

Engagement rings symbolize the love, commitment, and dedication two individuals share and bind them as one. Shopping for a wedding ring is different from engagement rings in so many ways. Mainly because this time you are shopping for both partners making this an exciting step in your journey to becoming husband and wife. A wedding ring is also your final gift to one another as you exchange your wedding vows.

Who Buys Wedding Rings?

Tradition has it that the groom pays for the bride’s ring, while the bride pays for the groom’s ring. But, in today’s world, wedding rings are usually selected together as a couple. Everything about wedding planning should be a fun and exciting experience. So, make it that! Make this a memory you’ll cherish forever.

It’s up to the couple to decide what’s in their best financial interest when buying wedding rings. Whether that is buying them together or separately. Communication is key.

When do you Buy Wedding Rings?

The best time for a couple to go wedding ring shopping is right after the proposal, even if you don’t have a date set. This will allow time for you to prepare, stress-free. Couples tend to wait until the end of their wedding plan timeline. This makes the process more rushed. We want customers to enjoy the entire process by allowing enough time to complete tasks efficiently.

There are a few different busy seasons in the jewelry industry. The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is one of our busiest times of the year.

During the holiday season, jewelers have Black Friday sales that everybody loves. You can also expect to see promotions between New Year’s Day and Valentine’s Day, and early in autumn. See here.

Most jewelers clean out inventory to allow room for new designs during these times.

How to Find Wedding Rings that Complement your Engagement Ring?

Some couples make the mistake of shopping for wedding rings after buying the engagement ring. Shopping for both your rings at the same time is a great idea. This way you can pair all the different rings and styles together to see what you love most. It’s so fun being able to mix and match with different settings, colors, and materials.

Everyone has their unique style and being able to compare all options at once is a blessing. Most engagement rings are made with a matching wedding ring. Often referred to as a bridal set, but it’s not required that you buy that exact set. We encourage you to explore your options and select the perfect wedding ring to compliment your engagement ring.

How can we Customize our Rings?

As a couple, you may have different styles, but still, find meaningful ways to include each other in your designs. Some examples include engraving of your wedding date, names, initials, and beautiful scriptures. Engraving your jewelry is a way to personalize a special piece, but it’s not the only way to include your spouse. For example, we have this personalized ring stack that incorporates your loved ones name and special date.

On which Hand do you Wear a Wedding Ring?

Typically, your wedding ring’s worn on the 4th finger of your left hand. This preference may vary from culture to culture, so ultimately, it’s your decision. The tradition stems from an ancient Egyptian belief that your vena amoris, the vein of love, was there. Although there’s no scientific proof of this vein, it’s still a beautiful myth.

How to Care for your Wedding Rings?

Cleaning your wedding ring has many benefits and should be done frequently if you’re a daily wearer. Especially if you’re wearing your rings while doing household chores and strenuous activities such as cooking, cleaning, exercising, or participating in outdoor activities. Cleaning your ring is simple. All you need to do is mix a degreasing solution using a few common household items. Our favorite way to do this is listed below.

DIY Ring Cleaning Solution:

  • Mix warm water and your favorite antibacterial dish-washing soap in a glass.
  • Soak your ring for 15-20 minutes to help loosen debris.
  • Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and gently clean the surface at all angles.
  • This will help remove any debris, build-up from lotions/grease, and germs.
  • Make sure to clean the bottom of your center stones. That is where the light shines through and gives your ring its sparkle.
  • Dry your ring with lint-free cotton or microfiber cloths.
  • Air dry your ring for 15-20 minutes to avoid dirt piling in wet spots before putting it back on yourself.

Protecting your rings goes beyond insurance. Nowadays, people opt to buy a “Vacation Ring” to wear while away from home. This is a great idea if you travel frequently. Bringing your real engagement and wedding rings on vacation poses a high risk of theft and loss. While you may think you will keep your real rings safe on your hand, you never know what could happen.
